COURSE DESCRIPTION

The International Papillomavirus Society (IPVS) is the global authority in Papillomaviruses with the mission to advance knowledge on human papillomavirus (HPV)-related diseases. The dissemination of knowledge on the clinical aspects of HPV infection can enhance better patient care and is part of the IPVS’s longstanding goals.

IPVS is organizing its first edition of a clinical Course on anogenital HPV-related diseases called Human Papillomavirus related Anogenital diseases Course for Clinicians (PACC), that will be a part of the 36th International Papillomavirus Conference (IPVC 2024) in Edinburgh, UK. This Course aims to provide clinicians with the best skills set for their daily clinical practice, with the opportunity to engage and learn from Clinical experts in this field.

This Course is divided into four anatomic modules: cervix, vulva/vagina, anus/perianus and penis: it covers the anatomy, epidemiology, screening and treatment of all the anogenital HPV-related diseases. It is designed for clinicians, with very practical sessions and with case-based discussions. This structure sets the difference from the IPVS Conference Clinical Workshop.

It will include a first full day of presentations regarding the four distinct anatomic modules, and a second half day (optional) of training on high-resolution anoscopy (HRA).

The IPVS Human Papillomavirus Related Anogenital Diseases Course for Clinicians (PACC), Edinburgh, United Kingdom 11/11/2024-12/11/2024 has been accredited by the European Accreditation Council for Continuing Medical Education (EACCME®) with 12.5 European CME credits (ECMEC®s). Each medical specialist should claim only those hours of credit that he/she actually spent in the educational activity.

TARGET GROUP

Clinicians working on anogenital HPV diseases. This Course will be of interest to both Fellows and Senior Physicians, including gynecologists, surgeons, dermatologists, gastroenterologists, infectious disease physicians, oncologists, pathologists and sexual health physicians, among others.

EDUCATIONAL OBJECTIVES

This course has been designed to provide clinicians with updated clinical information on anogenital HPV diseases and to help improve their knowledge and practical skills related to patient care.

The educational objectives of this Course are:

• To describe anatomy and histological classification of HPV related lesions in the cervix, vagina, vulva, anus, perianal region and penis
• To discuss the epidemiology of anogenital HPV-associated diseases, namely incidence, prevalence, mortality and high-risk groups for precancer and cancer
• To describe the available screening options, when recommended for anogenital precancerous lesions
• To discuss prevention strategies and the role of prophylactic HPV vaccines
• To describe treatment options for anogenital precancerous lesions
• To discuss the current recommendations for screening and treatment in each of the anogenital locations
• To describe cervical, vaginal, vulvar, anal and penile cancer diagnosis, stagging and treatment

Educational objectives:

• High-risk populations for anal precancerous lesions and anal squamous cell carcinoma
• How to set up an anal cancer screening clinic: equipment, material, consent forms and medical records
• To understand the principles and to perform an appropriate digital anorectal examination
• To perform sampling for anal cytology and /or HPV DNA testing. Biomarkers and anal precancerous lesions
• To understand how to perform a high-resolution anoscopy and anal precancerous lesion diagnosis
• Histopathological evaluation
• Basic principles on anal precancerous lesions treatment: methods, follow-up
• The role of Artificial intelligence

Practical LLETZ Clinical Workshop

Educational Objectives:

• To get familiarized with the tools used for LLETZ
• To learn how to set up the equipment (hardware, tools, settings)
• To understand the rationale behind the procedure
• To learn the consecutive steps of the technique
• To decide when to not do LLETZ, but instead chose another procedure
• To understand differences in cervical precancer management in pregnancy
• To decide the extent of the procedure, the choice of the loops, the number of excised specimens
• To decide when to complement LLETZ with endocervical curettage or endometrial sampling
• To learn how to avoid complications and how to treat them when they occur

REGISTRATION

This is an in person only course, available for IPVS members and non-members. The option to register only for the Course and not for the IPVS conference is available, although will be more expensive. You can register for the Course and/or the Conference on the Registration page.

There is no limit to the number of the participants for the Course on the 11th of November. For the workshops on the 12th of November, registrations will be accepted on a first-come first-served basis. The LLETZ workshop is limited to 15 people and the HRA workshop is limited to 20 people. Only participants who are registered and have completed the 1st day of the Course will be allowed to register for the workshop.
